This plant has always been associated with mystical forces, it is a captivating plant with feathery leaves and flowering crowns that range in tones of white and pink. Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) is a herbaceous plant of Greek origin noted to treat pneumonia, common cold, cough, cease blood flow, postpartum care, haemorrhoids, menstrual cramping, break fevers, wound healing, skin conditions, inflammation and amplifying the immune system.
Yarrow is dubbed as the first aid plant, “no herbal first aid kit is complete without it.” Its name originating from the ancient Greek warrior Achilles, who according to legend used Yarrow to treat his and his soldier’s wounds during the Trojan War. This plant contains an inherent wisdom recognised by our ancestors, yarrow has been a great service to many other cultures like China and Native America. It has offered its assistance in times of war, healing the wounds and easing the pains of the brave.
Yarrow is the master of blood, with the capacity to coagulate and cease blood flow, moderating wounds and bruising. From mild uterine or gastrointestinal bleeding to postpartum care and haemorrhoids, yarrow can help to harmonise blood flow.
Topically, Yarrow can be applied to speed up wound healing and skin healing for dermatitis and lingering skin aliments. A few drops of Yarrow Tincture can be applied, or we also offer a balm called Nipple Balm to assist mothers with cracked nipples.
