Mullein is known for pain relief and removing discomfort, whereas garlic is known for boosting immune systems and antimicrobial properties. Together they can encourage circulation and lymphatic flow, helping to release fluid build-ups within the ear.

The mullein and garlic oil can help soothe inner ear inflammation; this inflammation is often the cause of the tinnitus. Other things to put focus on, is eating anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and calendula along with brain foods like gotu kola and lion's mane.

Ear Infections & research studies

When it comes to earaches and ear infections, many trust mullein and garlic oil – but is there any research to back these claims up? A study into the “naturopathic treatment for ear pain in children’‘ was taken, in which the researchers mixed an oil that included garlic, mullein, calendula and St. John’s Wort. The 171 children were split into four groups, which received four different treatments. These were herbal ear drops, herbal ear drops plus antibiotics, anaesthetic ear drops plus antibiotics and then herbal ear drops plus anaesthetic ear drops. The study concluded that “Patients who were given ear drops alone had a better response than patients who were given ear drops together with amoxicillin.”

Bonus used for skin conditions

It is also worth noting that Mullein can also be very helpful for treating skin conditions and any general skincare. When mullein flower oil is applied topically, it can treat burns, bruises, haemorrhoids and in some cases gout too. When the mullein is in an oil form it is very good for treating any internal and external inflammation. We use Mullein in our Breathe Clear Balms & Breathe Clear Bath Salts.
