- ITS USES
You may not have heard of the Mullein, or it's magical medicinal properties but for those of you who are aware of it, have you heard of Mullein & Garlic oil? Ours is made from fresh homegrown organic Mullein flowers and homegrown organic garlic, it has been used as a holistic remedy for many different purposes which I will go through.
The Mullein leaves, also known as Verbascum Thapsus, is hailed to treat many respiratory illnesses and has been used religiously for centuries but the Mullein flower has also be used in the form of an infused oil – a great remedy for earaches, ear infections and other ear ailments. This popular natural remedy is a great one to be aware of with all of its uses.
When the mullein flower is mixed with garlic and olive oil it becomes a great natural remedy for earaches, ear infections, excess ear wax and it's been used for tinnitus. Mullein is known for pain relief and removing discomfort, whereas garlic is known for boosting immune systems and antimicrobial properties. Together they can encourage circulation and lymphatic flow, helping to release fluid build-ups within the ear.
Tinnitus
The mullein and garlic oil can help soothe inner ear inflammation; this inflammation is often the cause of the tinnitus. With frequent ear irrigation using homemade or store bought mullein and garlic drops, the effects of tinnitus can be reduced for periods of time. It is also reported that the stress relieving properties of mullein flower oil can help with the symptoms of tinnitus, managing your stress levels is very important to reduces the effects of tinnitus. You may want to try, meditation, bath salts, laying in complete darkness before bed and listen to some 417 hz frequency. Other things to put focus on, is eating anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric and calendula along with brain foods like gotu kola and lion's mane.
When it comes to earaches and ear infections, many trust mullein and garlic oil – but is there any research to back these claims up? A study into the “naturopathic treatment for ear pain in children’‘ was taken, in which the researchers mixed an oil that included garlic, mullein, calendula and St. John’s Wort. The 171 children were split into four groups, which received four different treatments. These were herbal ear drops, herbal ear drops plus antibiotics, anaesthetic ear drops plus antibiotics and then herbal ear drops plus anaesthetic ear drops. The study concluded that “Patients who were given ear drops alone had a better response than patients who were given ear drops together with amoxicillin.”
It is also worth noting that Mullein can also be very helpful for treating skin conditions and any general skincare. When mullein flower oil is applied topically, it can treat burns, bruises, haemorrhoids and in some cases gout too. When the mullein is in an oil form it is very good for treating any internal and external inflammation. We use Mullein in our Breathe Clear Balms & Breathe Clear Bath Salts.
